In a bid to motivate Nigeria's Paralympic athletes ahead of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France, the Federal Government has announced an upward review of winning bonuses for the athletes.
According to the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, gold medal winners will receive $15,000, silver medal winners will get $10,000, while bronze medal winners will receive $5,000.
"This is a token of our appreciation for the sacrifices and dedication of our para athletes," Senator Enoh said. "We believe that this gesture will serve as a morale booster and motivate them to excel in Paris."
He added, "The country is not in a happy mood after the Olympic Games, and I need all of you to look at yourselves as those people that are going to create and bring back joy. You are the ones that can make us proud again."
The Minister emphasized that the Federal Government is committed to supporting the para athletes and providing them with the necessary resources to succeed.
"We are committed to making sure that our para athletes have everything they need to excel," Senator Enoh said. "We believe in them, and we know that they have what it takes to make us proud."
The athletes, who are currently in training camp in Saarbrucken, Germany, were thrilled with the announcement.
