The League of Akwa Ibom Professionals has called on the people of Akwa Ibom State to promote ethnic harmony, proper governance of economic projects and strict adherence to the rule of law as the state marks its 39th anniversary.
The association, through its President, Chief John Umoren, urged the Ibibio, Annang, Oron and Obolo ethnic groups to maintain peace and resolve disagreements through constructive dialogue rather than divisive narratives.
The call comes amid controversy over the location of key economic assets in the state.
The association proposed peaceful resolution of the contentions, rather than what it described as a divisive political approach.
Umoren also urged youths across the state to remain peaceful, avoid being used to stoke division and protect their heritage through peaceful means.
The League further reaffirmed its intention to partner with the administration of Governor Umo Eno in supporting inclusive policies that ensure all segments of the state have a sense of belonging.
It said sustainable development would only be achievable if the state moved away from unpopular political approaches and prioritised unity and peaceful coexistence.
In a separate message marking the anniversary, the League described Akwa Ibom's future as promising, saying the state is positioning itself as a premier investment and industrial hub in Nigeria.
It attributed the state's direction to what it described as intensive visions of successive administrations since the creation of the state.
The professionals also saluted Governor Umo Eno, saying his ARISE Agenda is shifting the state from reliance on oil towards a diversified economy focused on infrastructure, agriculture and tourism.
According to the message, the diversification is expected to set the stage for long-term economic stability and growth.
The League concluded its anniversary message with confidence in the state's future, saying, “Indeed, the future is bright.”
