The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, has assured students with disabilities of the Commission’s support to enhance inclusive education in Nigerian campuses.
He gave the assurance when a delegation from the Africa Students Union Club, Federal University of Gusau, visited the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Commission, Ishaku Kigbu, the student group, inspired by African Union ideals, said it is working to promote unity, leadership and disability inclusion within campus communities.
Gufwan commended the students for prioritising inclusion and described their advocacy as a step toward building a fair society. He said the Commission is open to partnerships that will improve access to mobility aids, assistive devices and learning tools for students with disabilities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Club, Comrade Aminu Isa, listed areas where they seek collaboration, including assistive learning materials, mobility support, hearing devices, awareness campaigns and peer support training for student leaders.
He said the partnership would uplift students with special needs and reinforce the national drive for inclusive education.
Gufwan said the Commission would continue to work with student-led organisations to ensure that no student is denied access to opportunities on account of disability.
