The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported a significant increase in the registration of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) during the sixth week of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, indicating improved participation and inclusion in the electoral process.

According to INEC’s data covering September 29 to October 3, 2025, the total number of PWD registrants rose from 13,987 recorded in the previous week to 17,450, marking a 24.8 per cent increase.

The breakdown shows that individuals with albinism topped the chart with 2,911 registrations, followed by those with blindness (1,440) and physical impediments (1,766). Other categories such as deafness (1,228), autism (776), and cognitive learning disabilities (437) also recorded steady growth, while 6,181 registrants were captured under “others.”

INEC described the increase as a positive sign that ongoing awareness campaigns and accessibility improvements are yielding results.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive elections, urging all eligible voters, particularly those with disabilities, to take advantage of the ongoing registration through its official portal (https://cvr.inecnigeria.org) or any designated registration centre.

INEC also emphasized that it remains dedicated to strengthening voter inclusion and ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of ability, has equal access to the democratic process.
