The Nationa4l Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has renewed its collaboration with the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) to promote the well-being and inclusion of persons with disabilities and older persons across Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity, Ishaku Kigbu, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, said the partnership will enhance programmes that provide social protection, accessible healthcare, and community-based interventions for vulnerable groups.
Hon. Gufwan congratulated the NSCC Director General, Hon. Omobolanle Akinyemi Obe, on her appointment and emphasized that disability and ageing are part of human diversity that require deliberate inclusion in national planning.
Hon. Obe responded by proposing joint initiatives on social protection, healthcare, skills reactivation, economic empowerment, and caregiver training for older persons with disabilities. She stressed the need for intentional action to ensure that senior citizens live their later years with dignity, peace, and quality care.
Both agencies pledged to develop a national framework for inclusion and expand outreach offices across Nigeria to reach vulnerable persons in rural communities, aligning with national disability policies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
