Women under the Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory have received training in peanut production as part of efforts to promote economic empowerment and self-reliance.
The training took place during the group’s monthly meeting held at its Safe Space in Gaba, Abuja, where participants also discussed strategies to strengthen their activities and support systems.
Speaking at the meeting, community leader, Eucharia Anajekwu, welcomed participants and emphasised the importance of unity and consistency in achieving collective goals.
The session, which opened with a prayer led by Florence John, focused on reinforcing commitment among members, particularly in areas such as regular attendance, financial contributions, and mutual support.
Members noted that the monthly gatherings serve as more than administrative meetings, providing a platform for sharing ideas, building confidence, and supporting one another’s aspirations.
A major highlight of the event was the hands-on training in peanut production, where participants were taught how to process and package peanuts for commercial purposes.
The initiative, according to the group, is aimed at equipping women with practical skills that can be converted into sustainable sources of income.
The organisation also disclosed plans to hold a perfume-making training in the coming weeks as part of its broader efforts to expand livelihood opportunities for women in the community.
Participants expressed optimism that such initiatives would enhance their economic independence and improve their standard of living.
