Advocates and stakeholders on Friday took to the streets of Akure, Ondo State, to raise awareness on inclusion and support for children with Down syndrome.
The event, held to mark World Down Syndrome Day, focused on promoting acceptance and equal opportunities for children living with the condition.
The organisers said the outreach was aimed at encouraging society to see, support, and value every child, regardless of their condition.
The awareness walk was carried out in partnership with the Chromosome 21 Down Syndrome Care Foundation, with participants calling for a more inclusive society where children with Down syndrome can thrive.
They stressed the need for increased awareness, access to support services, and policies that promote inclusion in education and community life.
According to the organisers, inclusion means creating a society where every child is loved, accepted, and given a sense of belonging.
Participants also engaged residents during the street campaign, urging the public to embrace diversity and support children with special needs.
The event is part of ongoing efforts to promote disability rights and reduce stigma across communities.
