Aisha Aminu's reinstatement a milestone in disability advocacy, Says AWWDI

National Coordinator of the Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative, AWWDI, Bilikisu Yakubu, has hailed the reinstatement of Aisha Aminu, a visually impaired nurse, at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Bida as a significant victory for disability inclusion.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Yakubu emphasized that Aminu’s return to her position is not only a personal triumph but also a landmark achievement in the broader advocacy for disability rights. Aminu, who had faced unjust discrimination despite her successful performance in the selection exam, was supported by AWWDI throughout her struggle.

Yakubu expressed gratitude towards FMC Bida for their decisive action, highlighting the collective responsibility of promoting disability inclusion. "We are deeply grateful to the Federal Medical Centre Bida for their decisive actions and for exemplifying that disability inclusion is a collective responsibility," Yakubu stated.

The reinstatement of Aminu, Yakubu noted, reflects FMC Bida's commitment to the principles of equality and inclusion, demonstrating that every individual, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their field.

"This resolution marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to advocate for and support individuals with disabilities," Yakubu added. "It underscores the importance of inclusive practices and the positive impact they have on both individuals and institutions."

AWWDI celebrates this achievement as a step forward in fostering an environment where all individuals are given equal opportunities to succeed.
