NAWOJ FCT Applauds NNPC’s Push for Inclusivity in Oil Sector

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, FCT Chapter, has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited for its commitment to promoting diversity, transparency, and accountability in the oil and gas sector.


Speaking at a one-day symposium themed "The Nigerian Petroleum Industry: The Way Forward," held in Abuja, the NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Bassey Ita Ikpang, represented by the Vice Chairperson, Rebecca Bolanle Ukpevo, highlighted NNPC’s strides towards inclusivity.


“Your dedication to driving growth and diversity in the oil and gas sector is truly commendable. As women journalists, we are advocates for transformative change and stand with NNPC in this journey toward a more inclusive and transparent industry,” she said.


The event, organized by NNPC and Class Masters Limited, brought together industry leaders and experts, including NUJ FCT Chairman Grace Ike and former NAWOJ National President Ms. Evelyn Onyilo. Discussions centered on integrating gender and youth into the oil and gas sector to unlock Nigeria's energy potential.


Keynote speaker Professor Kayode Soremekun urged Nigerians to take ownership of the nation’s resources, emphasizing the need for a shift towards global best practices. Other speakers, such as Chief Moji Makanjuola, stressed empowering youths to drive innovation.


Rebecca Ukpevo reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster fairness and accountability in the sector, stating, “This platform allows us to amplify marginalized voices and advance transformative discourse for sustainable growth.”
