The First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has urged stakeholders to create more opportunities for women, emphasizing the need for equal rights and inclusion in all spheres of life.
She made this call in Lokoja while marking the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) with the theme "Accelerate Action."
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, I join women and girls across Kogi State and the world to commemorate our collective progress, resilience, and determination,” she said.
Mrs. Ododo reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for women’s rights, economic empowerment, and education while strengthening efforts to end gender-based violence.
She called for an end to suppression, intimidation, and violence against women, urging society to support and uplift them.
“Let us continue to lift each other up, support each other's dreams, and demand a world that values and respects the contributions of women and girls,” she added.
The First Lady also saluted Kogi women for their resilience and contributions to the state’s development, describing them as the “unsung heroes” shaping communities.
The IWD celebration, she noted, is a reminder that achieving gender equality requires action beyond words, with concrete policies and initiatives at all levels of government.
