Group Trains Community Leaders to Tackle SGBV Through SAFE Project

A civil society group, the Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC), is leading efforts to empower community and religious leaders with tools to confront sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) through its flagship SAFE Project.

The initiative, which focuses on training participants in SGBV, human rights, and gender equality, aims to dismantle harmful cultural practices that fuel violence and discrimination in communities.

According to DRAC, the trainings are yielding results. Local by-laws are being reviewed to reflect gender equality and human rights, cultural gatekeepers are openly rejecting harmful norms that silence survivors, and persons with disabilities are increasingly being recognized as equal members of society.

The organization said the SAFE Project is not just a conversation platform but a turning point. “Our trainings aren’t just talk shops; they are sparking real change and building a movement for justice, inclusion, and safety across communities,” a DRAC representative stated.
