The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), in partnership with SMEDAN, has launched an entrepreneurship training program for 60 female journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The initiative, which started on September 22, 2025, aims to equip participants with practical business skills, mentorship, and access to resources to promote financial independence.
NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, described the program as a long-awaited opportunity for journalists to build side businesses and enhance reporting on the SME sector.
FCT NUJ Chairperson, Comrade Grace Ike, called for starter packs to help participants implement the skills learned, while NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, urged participants to embrace new ideas and innovative approaches.
SMEDAN’s Head of Women & Youth Division, Mrs. Olabimpe Fawale, said the partnership reflects a strategic effort to empower women journalists to transform ideas into sustainable businesses.
The program, supported by ICSS and CAPSTONE, runs from September through November 2025 in two cohorts, combining physical and online sessions, mentorship, and professional business development services
