NAWOJ Applauds Patricia Akawu’s Appointment as NBS GM

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zone D, has congratulated Mrs. Patricia Akawu, pioneer Chairperson of NAWOJ in Nasarawa State, on her appointment as General Manager of the state-owned Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Mrs. Chizoba Ogbeche, Vice President of NAWOJ Zone D, described the appointment as a testament to Akawu’s experience and leadership qualities, expressing confidence that she would excel in her new role.

In a statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Juliana Ofoku, Ogbeche said, “The appointment of Mrs. Patricia Akawu as General Manager of NBS did not come as a surprise, given her outstanding contributions to journalism and tireless advocacy for women’s rights. Her dedication and expertise have earned her this well-deserved recognition.”

Ogbeche also commended Governor Sule for selecting a seasoned journalist and NAWOJ leader for the role, noting that it highlights the government’s recognition of women’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to state development and governance programs.

Mrs. Akawu, who until her appointment headed the Department of News and Current Affairs at NBS, succeeds Aloko Flashman, who retired in May 2025. NAWOJ reiterated its commitment to supporting women in leadership and advancing the role of female journalists in national development.
