The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed deep sadness over the death of Arise Television journalist, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.
In a statement signed by its National President, Aisha Ibrahim, NAWOJ described Maduagwu as a talented journalist whose professionalism and creativity stood out in her work. The association said her untimely death is a painful loss to her family, colleagues, and the media community.
NAWOJ commended the police for starting investigations but insisted that the process must be thorough, transparent, and quick to ensure those behind the incident are brought to justice.
“This tragedy shows the urgent need for government and security agencies to protect journalists, especially female journalists who face more risks,” Ibrahim said.
The group also called for stronger security measures and support systems to safeguard journalists across the country.
NAWOJ extended its condolences to Maduagwu’s family, her colleagues at Arise TV, and the wider media industry, praying for her soul to rest in peace.
