Include Persons with Disabilities in Your Projects, Blind Association Tells Taraba Senator

APC Senator David Jimkuta, Taraba South Senatorial District

The Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB), Taraba State Chapter, has urged Senator David Jimkuta of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Taraba South Senatorial District, to include persons with disabilities in all his constituency projects and programmes.

In an open letter  by the State Chairman, Mr. Wanderimam Teyang, the association acknowledged the Senator’s efforts in providing scholarships and empowerment programmes. However, it said persons with disabilities in Taraba South have not benefited from any of the initiatives.

Mr. Teyang said the exclusion goes against the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, which requires all public programmes to be inclusive, with at least five percent of benefits allocated to persons with disabilities.

He urged the Senator to work with organizations of persons with disabilities to design programmes that are accessible, fair, and reflective of the needs of everyone in the constituency.

Persons with disabilities are part of Taraba South, he said. They deserve equal opportunities and should not be left behind.

The association also encouraged the Senator to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 by organizing an inclusive event that supports and empowers persons with disabilities in the district.
