The FRAD Foundation has commenced the distribution of multipurpose cash assistance to caregivers of children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The intervention, carried out in Gadamayo community, is part of the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund-supported project titled “Strengthening Nutrition and WASH Lean Season Response through an Inclusive Approach for Community Resilience in Borno and Adamawa States.”
At the distribution held at the Outpatient Therapeutic Programme unit of the General Hospital, Gwoza, each eligible caregiver received the first tranche of N71,750 to address urgent nutrition and household needs.
The organisation said the cash support is part of a two-phase disbursement designed to provide timely relief to vulnerable households while helping to strengthen their resilience during the lean season.
According to FRAD Foundation, the intervention integrates nutrition and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services to ensure a holistic response to the needs of affected communities.
Beneficiaries expressed relief over the support, noting that the assistance would help them cater for their children’s nutritional needs and other basic necessities.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to delivering life-saving interventions and promoting inclusive humanitarian responses, stressing the need to ensure that no vulnerable group is left behind.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with humanitarian partners, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and other development organisations.
