The Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative ,AWWDI, Nasarawa State Chapter, has called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to support efforts aimed at promoting the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities in the state.
The call was made during an advocacy visit by AWWDI members to the leadership of CAN in Nasarawa, where discussions centred on the challenges faced by women with disabilities, particularly their limited access to full participation in community and religious activities.
Speaking during the meeting, representatives of AWWDI stressed the need for faith-based organisations to play a more active role in advancing inclusion by creating accessible and welcoming environments for persons with disabilities.
In response, CAN representatives described the engagement as an eye-opener, acknowledging gaps in awareness and inclusion within religious spaces. They expressed willingness to support advocacy efforts and encouraged AWWDI to sustain its awareness campaigns across communities.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between civil society organisations and religious institutions in addressing social barriers and promoting equal opportunities for all.
AWWDI said it remains committed to building strategic partnerships that will amplify the voices of women and girls with disabilities and ensure their rights are protected across Nasarawa State.
