NAWOJ FCT Urges Security Agencies to Act After Death of Arise News Journalist

The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT chapter, has called on security agencies to take urgent action following the tragic and untimely death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer at Arise News Channel.

In a statement by the Secretary of NAWOJ FCT, Nkiruka Okeke, Chairperson Bassey Ita-Ikpang said the organization is deeply saddened by Maduagwu’s passing, describing her as a dedicated and talented journalist whose work served as a role model for many in the industry.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues at Arise News during this very difficult time,” Ita-Ikpang said.

She urged the relevant authorities to carry out a full and thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. She also called on security agencies to strengthen safety measures across the FCT, its environs, and the country at large to protect citizens from violent acts.

NAWOJ FCT emphasized that Maduagwu’s death is not only a loss to Arise News but also to the Nigerian media community and the public who benefited from her work. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of women journalists and stressed the importance of stronger protections for those covering sensitive issues.
