Persons with disabilities, PWDs, have called for improved access to sexual and reproductive health services, citing stigma, poor treatment, and lack of inclusion in healthcare delivery.
A disability advocate, Favorite Favour, who shared her concerns on Facebook, said many persons with disabilities, particularly women and girls, are often excluded from essential health information and services.
She said the challenges go beyond physical barriers, noting that negative attitudes from health workers and lack of understanding further limit access to care.
According to her, the situation is more difficult in rural areas where health services are not inclusive and awareness is low.
“Many persons with disabilities are not treated with dignity in healthcare settings, and our needs are often ignored,” she said.
She urged health personnel to listen, promote inclusion in decision-making, and provide safe and accessible services for all.
Favour also emphasised the need for government and relevant stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health, to prioritise inclusive healthcare.
She reiterated the call for respect for the rights, dignity, and bodily autonomy of persons with disabilities.
