AWWDI Strengthens Fight Against Abuse of Girls with Disabilities

The Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) has taken another big step in protecting the rights of girls with disabilities.

On a visit to the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria in Abuja, AWWDI explained its project on empowering girls with disabilities, which is supported by the Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum (CDPF).

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Roseline Migbole of AWWDI said the project is focused on breaking barriers and making sure girls with disabilities can get justice when they face abuse, discrimination, or violence.

In response, the Director of Civil Justice at the Legal Aid Council, Dr. Samuel Ayodele Banjo, welcomed the group and assured them of support. He said the Council is committed to fighting gender-based violence and protecting the rights of all Nigerians.

Dr. Banjo also shared that the Council has a call center where people can report cases of abuse for quick action. He stressed that legal education is very important so that women and girls can know and defend their rights.

The visit ended with both organisations agreeing to work together to make justice more accessible to girls with disabilities.
